The Master System was in direct competition with the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in the third video game generation. The Master System also featured a distinctive bloopy sound chip, a 256 × 192 resolution and 32 colours on-screen giving room for a very impressive scaling and rotation. The console’s accessories also included a light gun and 3D glasses that worked with a range of specially coded games. The original SMS was created to play both cartridges and the credit card-sized "Sega Cards," which had lower storage capacity and retailed for cheaper prices than cartridges. Both models were made to be cross compatible with one another. ![]() ![]() The Sega Master System also referred to as SMS, is an 8-bit third-generation video game console that was manufactured and released by Sega in 1985 in Japan (as the Sega Mark III)and then remodelled for release in 1986, 19 across North America, Europe and Brazil respectively.
